Where Óna comes from
Óna was founded by designer Jane McCann, who was born by the ocean in Ireland. Sea and mountains have shaped her work ever since. Her colours and textures come from land and seascapes, not trend forecasts.
Jane’s career has moved between fashion, performance sportswear and research. She showed Irish linen and tweed at the Royal College of Art in 1970, then designed skiwear prototypes for ICI Fibres, working early on with new fibre innovation. In 1995 she launched the MA in Performance Sportswear Design, and from 2004 to 2012 she led research into smart clothes and wearable technology. That work taught her that designing with the people who wear the clothes, rather than only for them, belongs at the centre of development.
